Petite Legging Inseams, Measured: 17" to 25", and Who Actually Sells Them

Short version — If you are 5'0" to 5'3", the length you want is 23" to 25". Four brands will sell it to you by the inch: CRZ Yoga (17" to 25"), PopFlex (23" Extra Petite, 25" Petite), Girlfriend Collective (23.75") and Senita (23", 24", 25"). Baleaf calls 25" petite. Bubblelime stops at 25".

We wrote the opposite of this page last week, counting how few leggings reach a 31-inch inseam. Short shoppers have the better end of that deal — but only at some brands, and most of them will not tell you which inch you are buying until you read the listing title.

Which brands sell leggings with an inseam under 25 inches?

We went through each brand's public catalog and counted fitted leggings and tights only. No flares, bootcuts, wide legs, capris or shorts. Colors of the same listing count once.

CRZ Yoga wins this on volume, and it is not close. It prints the inches at the end of the listing name — Butterluxe Pocket Legging 21", Butterlift High Rise Workout Legging 23" — so the length is decided before you pick a size. There were 5 listings at 17" or 19", 5 at 21", 4 at 23" and 33 at 25" on the day we looked. We broke down how its sizing runs in our CRZ Yoga brand notes.

PopFlex takes the opposite approach. One style, five named length bands, and the inches are spelled out in the description: Extra Petite 23", Petite 25", Regular 27", Tall 29", Extra Tall 31". Nine of its ten fitted leggings offer Petite. Only four offer Extra Petite: the Contour Legging ($68), the Crisscross Hourglass Faux Leather Legging ($74), the Crisscross Hourglass Sklegging ($78) and the Foldover Legging ($65).

Girlfriend Collective puts a 23.75" option on all seven of its fitted leggings, the most consistent short offering here and also the priciest: $108 to $128, with clearance colors from $29.40.

What inseam should you buy if you're 5 feet to 5 foot 4?

Three of the six publish a height recommendation at the short end. They do not agree, and the gap widens the taller you get inside that band.

At 5'2" the three roughly agree: 25", 24.6", or anything from 25" up. At 5'6" they split. PopFlex has already moved you to 27". Baleaf still thinks 25.4" is your length. Bubblelime's single row would let you walk out with 28", which is nearly three inches of extra fabric at the ankle.

Girlfriend Collective, Senita and CRZ Yoga give no height guidance at the short end at all. They sell you a number and leave the rest to you, which is fine if you know your own inseam. Does "petite" mean the same thing at every brand?

No. It is not a standard, it is a marketing word, and two of these brands do not use it at all.

PopFlex splits petite in two, and the split matters: 23" and 25" are a full length band apart. The other four skip the label and hand you the inch, which is the honest version of the same information. Brands rarely agree on what a letter means either — see how five brands label the same body.

How much shorter is a petite pair than the regular one?

Baleaf answers this cleanly, because it sells nearly the same fleece legging in both. Here are the two charts, side by side, with the height bands the brand prints on each.

Two inches, flat, at every size. That is roughly the distance from your ankle bone to the base of your calf, and it is why a pair that bunches in three folds at the hem will still bunch after a wash. Both are fleece-lined, both run $37 to $39, and the petite one is the cheaper.

Look at the bottom row again, though. The petite chart runs to XXXL, paired with 6'1"–6'3". Baleaf is not selling petite to short women; it is selling a shorter leg to anyone who wants one.

Does sizing down make the leg shorter?

Barely. On that same petite chart, dropping from L to XS takes 1.2" off the inseam and 6" off the waist.

Across the whole run, XS to XXXL, the leg grows 1.8" while the waist grows 19". So a size down buys you about four tenths of an inch and costs you two inches of waist, which is the fastest way to get a waistband that rolls. That is the same trap tall shoppers fall into from the other direction, which we measured in tall leggings with a 31-inch inseam. Pick the waist first, then hunt for the length. If your waist lands between two rows, the waistband decides, and a big waist-to-hip difference changes the answer again — see why leggings gap at the back.

Is a shorter inseam cheaper?

At the brands that sell length as an option, no. The price is set by the style.

• PopFlex charges $68 for the Contour Legging at 23", 25", 27", 29" and 31". Same number in every band.
• Girlfriend Collective lists the Compressive High-Rise at $108 whether you take 23.75", 28" or 31".
• Senita is $45 at 23", 24", 25", 26", 27" and 28".
• CRZ Yoga is the exception, and only because each length is a separate listing with its own price. The Butterluxe Pocket Legging is $22 at 21", $32 at 23" and $25 at 25". The 17" Butterluxe Yoga Origin is $28; the 25" version of the same style is also $28.
• Baleaf prices its Petite Fleece-Lined at $37 against $39 for the regular Brushed Fleece — a $2 difference that has more to do with the fabric weight than the leg.

A big price gap between two lengths at one brand usually means the fabric changed, and fabric moves the fit as much as the chart does — we put numbers on that in cotton vs fleece.

What do short shoppers get wrong about length?

• Treating a 7/8 as a petite full-length. A 25" listed as 7/8 for a 5'7" body is a 25" full-length on a 5'2" body. Same pair, different name. The 7/8 and capri numbers are laid out in our capri and 7/8 charts.
• Buying the word instead of the inch. Petite is 23" at PopFlex and 25" at Baleaf. Two inches apart, same word.
• Planning to hem. A four-way stretch hem with a coverstitch does not take a hem well, and cutting one off removes the elastic edge that keeps the leg from riding up.
• Sizing down for length. The Baleaf chart above shows what that actually buys: tenths of an inch.

I'm 5'1". Is 23" or 25" the safer buy?

25" if you want the hem at the ankle bone, 23" if you want it above it. PopFlex assigns 23" to under 5'0" and 25" to 5'1"–5'3", so at 5'1" you are at the bottom of the 25" band. Measure your own inner leg before you decide; the difference between those two numbers is visible.

Which brand has the most choice under 25 inches?

CRZ Yoga, with 47 listings at 25" or shorter, including 5 at 17"–19", 5 at 21" and 4 at 23". Nothing else in this set comes near that spread.

Do any of these brands sell under 23 inches in a full-length legging?

Only CRZ Yoga, at 17", 19" and 21". At those numbers the hem sits at or below the calf on most heights, so read them as crops rather than short full-lengths. Brands also print different charts for different fabrics within the same catalog, which we covered in same brand, two size charts.

TL;DR — For 5'0" to 5'3", look for 23" to 25". CRZ Yoga has by far the most stock there (47 listings, down to 17", $15–$40), PopFlex sells 23" on four styles and 25" on nine, Girlfriend puts 23.75" on all seven of its leggings, and Senita prints 23", 24" and 25". Baleaf's Petite chart reads 24.6" at XS, exactly 2" under its regular chart at every size. Bubblelime's shortest fitted legging is 25".
