Capri and 7/8 Legging Size Charts: One Word, 17.9" to 27" of Inseam
- The word "capri" covers 17.9" to 27" of inseam at the five brands we track — a nine-inch spread under one label.
- A size M waist on these crop charts runs anywhere from 25.5" to 32.25", depending on whose chart you are reading.
- Most crops get longer as you size up. One Baleaf cropped pant grows 1.8" from XS to 3XL; another holds 17.9" flat across all seven sizes.
The gist — Capri, crop and 7/8 are marketing words, not measurements. CRZ Yoga sells a 7/8 pant with a 27" inseam; PopFlex calls 27" its Regular full length. Read the number in the product title, then check whether the chart says that number changes with your size.
Shopping a cropped legging by name is guesswork. Shopping it by inseam takes about forty seconds, and the number is usually sitting right there in the title.
What inseam is a capri, actually?
We pulled every in-stock cropped bottom from five public catalogs on Sept. 18, 2026, and wrote down the length each one advertises.

Nothing in that table is wrong. It is simply five vocabularies pointed at the same rack. Baleaf's shortest capri measures 17.9" on its own chart and sits well above the knee on most people; CRZ's 7/8 measures 27" and stops at the ankle bone. Both are sold as "cropped."
Why is one brand's 7/8 another brand's full length?
Because "7/8" describes a proportion of a leg, and brands pick different legs. PopFlex is explicit about it: on the Crisscross Hourglass legging, Extra Petite is 23", Petite 25", Regular 27", Tall 29" and Extra Tall 31". Its Regular is exactly the inseam CRZ prints on a 7/8 pant.
So a 5'2" shopper buying PopFlex Petite at 25" and a 5'9" shopper buying CRZ's 27" 7/8 end up at roughly the same spot on the ankle. Same landing, two inches apart on paper. The full ladder is broken down in inseam by height.
What does size M mean on a crop chart?
Here is the same letter on five charts, waist and hip in inches, taken from the size chart attached to each product.

The bottom of the M range and the top of it are 6.75" apart. That is not a rounding difference, it is two different bodies. And the Bubblelime line explains part of the gap: its chart ends with the sentence "All sizes are measured flat," meaning those inches describe the garment lying on a table, not the person wearing it. CRZ, by contrast, tells you outright that "measurements should be taken directly on your body." Compare the two without noticing that line and you will size up when you should not.
The cargo capri is the other outlier, and for a duller reason: it is a hiking pant with a woven-ish cut, so Baleaf grades its waist two inches larger than its own yoga capri at the same letter. One brand, two charts, same M. We took that apart in Baleaf's 54 charts.
Does the inseam change when you size up?
Usually, yes, and nobody puts it on the product page. Four cropped styles, inseam by size, straight from their charts:

Two things fall out of that. A 3XL golf pant is nearly two inches longer than the XS sold under the same "20 inch" headline. And the V-Cross capri, frozen at 17.9" for every size, will sit progressively higher on taller bodies, which is exactly the complaint reviews of flat-graded crops keep repeating.
Where does each crop land on your leg?
Rough guide for a 5'5" frame with a 30" full-length inseam, using the lengths in the first table:
- 17.9–19" — mid-calf, several inches above the ankle. The classic capri silhouette.
- 20–22" — just below the widest part of the calf. Most Bubblelime crops sit here.
- 23–23.75" — low calf. CRZ's 23" crop, PopFlex Extra Petite and Girlfriend's short Length all land in this band.
- 25" — a couple of inches above the ankle bone. Reads as 7/8 on shorter frames, as a crop on taller ones.
- 27" — ankle bone. CRZ calls it 7/8; PopFlex calls the same number Regular.
Add or subtract roughly an inch per two inches of height. If you are near the top of a size and the crop grades longer, that shifts it too, which is one more reason the waistband should break the tie rather than the length.
How do you buy a crop without guessing?
- Find the number, ignore the noun. Every brand here prints the inseam in the title or the Length dropdown. "Capri" tells you nothing on its own.
- Check whether the chart says "flat." Garment-flat inches and body inches are not comparable, and only one chart in our table says which it is using.
- Read the inseam row at your size, not at XS. The headline length is usually the small end.
- Measure once and keep two numbers. Waist and hip in inches travel between stores; a letter does not. How to measure takes five minutes.
- Mind the hip-to-waist gap. Crop charts assume the same 9- to 11-inch drop as full-lengths do, which is where the back gap comes from.
Is a 7/8 legging the same as a capri?
Not at these brands. The crops we found sit between 17.9" and 25"; the pants labeled 7/8 sit at 25" to 27". They overlap at 25", and that overlap is where most of the confusion lives.
Should I size down in a capri because there is less fabric?
No. The waist and hip grading on a crop chart matches the brand's full-length chart at every brand we checked — CRZ, Girlfriend and Baleaf all reuse one bottoms chart across lengths. Only the inseam row changes.
Why do two capris from the same brand fit differently?
Fabric, mostly. A woven-blend hiking capri and a nylon-spandex yoga capri can share a label and still grade two inches apart at the waist, which is what Baleaf's two charts show. We measured that effect in does fabric change the size chart.
TL;DR — Cropped bottoms sold as capri, crop or 7/8 run 17.9" to 27" of inseam across Baleaf, Bubblelime, CRZ Yoga, Girlfriend Collective and PopFlex. Size M means a 25.5–27" waist on one chart and 30.25–32.25" on another, partly because one measures the garment flat and the rest measure your body. Most crops grow up to 1.8" longer from XS to 3XL.
