Key takeaways
  • Two brands publish their own height-to-length maps, and they disagree by about two inches for the same height.
  • PopFlex sells by height band with the inches attached: 23" extra petite, 25" petite, 27" regular, 29" tall, 31" extra tall.
  • Bubblelime's chart runs longer — 29" for 5'4"–5'8" — because its long lengths are cut for bootcut styles that stack over the heel.

Quick answerFor a straight ankle-length legging: 23" fits under 5'0", 25" fits 5'1"–5'3", 27" fits 5'4"–5'7", 29" fits 5'8"–5'11" and 31" fits 6'0" and up. Add roughly two inches if the leg is a bootcut or flare, because that hem is meant to sit over the shoe.

Length is the measurement people skip, and it is the one that decides whether a pair gets worn. A size can be forgiving; two inches of extra fabric bunched at the ankle cannot.

What inseam should you wear for your height?

PopFlex is unusually direct about this: it sells the same legging in five lengths, names each one by height band, and publishes the inches behind the band.

HeightPopFlex bandInseamWhere it lands
Under 5'0"Extra Petite23"At the ankle bone
5'1"–5'3"Petite25"At the ankle bone
5'4"–5'7"Regular27"At the ankle bone
5'8"–5'11"Tall29"At the ankle bone
6'0" and upExtra Tall31"At the ankle bone

Every band moves two inches for roughly three inches of height. That ratio is the useful part: if your usual length is one inch short, you are one band away, not one size.

Why does another brand's chart say something different?

Because it is describing a different hem. Bubblelime publishes its own length guide, and its numbers run longer at every height.

Bubblelime lengthHeight it listsIts own description
15"–22"Any height"Below the knee to mid-calf"
25"–28"Under 5'7""Just above the ankle"
29"5'4"–5'8""Full length, at the ankle"
31"5'7"–5'10""Full coverage, no ankle gap"
33"5'9"–6'0""Full length without riding up"
35"5'11"–6'2""Over the heel, stacked"
37"6'1" and taller"Full over-the-heel length"

Line the two charts up at 5'6". PopFlex says 27 inches; Bubblelime says 29. The gap is not an error — it is the bootcut allowance, and Bubblelime states it outright: for bootcut and flare styles, "go up one length," about two inches more than a straight legging.

👉 Translation: use the shorter chart for ankle-length leggings and the longer one for anything that flares below the knee.

How do you measure your own inseam?

Two ways, and the second is more reliable.

The flat-measure method wins because it removes the guesswork about where "the top of the inner thigh" is, and because it captures how a garment you already trust actually sits.

Which lengths can you actually buy?

Publishing a chart and stocking the lengths are different things. We counted every in-stock legging, capri and tight in five brand catalogs on Sept. 8 and looked at how many offered a choice of length at all.

BrandIn-stock leggingsOffer 2+ lengthsLengths seen
PopFlex7580%23", 25", 27", 29", 31" (as height bands)
Bubblelime40159%19", 20", 22", 26", 27", 28", 29", 31", 33", 35", 37"
Senita Athletics1218%19", 22", 23", 24", 25", 26", 27", 28", 29", 31"
Baleaf832%Mostly one length per style, petite on a few
Girlfriend Collective330% of leggingsFixed per style; the foldover offers 23.75" or 28"

Senita is the interesting middle case: it publishes the inseam in the product name on almost everything — 26", 27", 23" and so on — but sells one length per style. You always know what you are getting; you just cannot change it.

What happens if you are between two lengths?

Go longer. Bubblelime's own guidance says so, and the reasoning holds across brands: knit fabric stretches vertically as you wear it, hems can stack at the ankle without looking wrong, and a hem that stops an inch above the ankle bone reads as a mistake rather than a style.

The exception is compression. A high-compression legging that is too long will bunch behind the knee instead of stacking neatly, so for those, take the shorter option.

What about capris and cropped lengths?

Capri numbers are less about height and more about where you want the hem to stop. Across the catalogs we track, the common crops are 19" (just below the knee on most heights), 21"–22" (mid-calf), and 23"–25" (a seven-eighths length that reads as a short legging on tall wearers).

If you are 5'9" and buy a 22" capri, you are buying a below-knee short. That is fine if it is what you wanted.

Does inseam change with size?

Slightly, on most brands. A size run usually keeps the nominal inseam constant and grades the rise and waist instead, which is why the same 27" reads shorter on a taller body wearing a larger size.

Is 7/8 length the same as 25 inches?

Not reliably. "7/8" is a proportion, so it depends on the wearer; the inches are the fact. When a listing gives both, trust the number.

My inseam is 26 inches but every brand's chart puts me elsewhere. Who is right?

Your tape measure. Charts predict; a measurement records. Match the number to the product's stated inseam and ignore the height band. If you also need help choosing a size, see what to do when you are between two sizes.

TL;DR — 23" under 5'0", 25" for 5'1"–5'3", 27" for 5'4"–5'7", 29" for 5'8"–5'11", 31" for 6'0"+. Add two inches for bootcut. Measure a pair you already own, flat, from the crotch seam to the hem, and use that number forever. Brand label systems differ too — see how five brands label the same body.

How do you check a brand's length claim?

Measure the pair you already own, flat, then compare that number to the one on the page. Brands are more consistent about inseam than about size, but the label still varies in what it counts.

Three habits are worth knowing. Senita prints the inseam in the product name itself — 23", 26", 27" and so on — so the number is visible before you open the listing. Girlfriend Collective attaches length to the style rather than to a selector, which is why its foldover legging offers 23.75" or 28" and its other leggings offer neither. PopFlex names the band and hides the inches, so "Regular" is 27" whether or not the page says so.

When a listing gives no number at all, measure the model's description instead: "seven-eighths", "ankle length" and "full length" are proportions, and they land differently at 5'2" than at 5'10". More on how the labels themselves diverge is in our size chart coverage, and the between-sizes decision is in the guides.
